In our exclusive interview, he told me the real story behind the Celle, the lowest priced fully-featured chair in Herman Miller's history! I'm pleased to share his wisdom and philosophies with you.

I sat down with Jerome Caruso in his home studio in Lake Forest, Illinois, one week before his trip to present the Celle story to Europe. He had me enthralled for over two hours, but I've cut to the chase.

ML: Jerome, how long is the process from concept to a new product rolling off the assembly line?

JC: Design time at Herman Miller is usually three years at minimum and one year for production. This one took five years with all the testing involved. We went through over a million test cycles…
